Clean Beauty, is it really worth it?
The last piece of regulation for the beauty industry was passed in 1938, how insane that is? An industry that makes and packages everything that we put on our skin and that later gets absorbed by it.
This is why companies load daily use products with toxic ingredients, including known carcinogens and endocrine disruptors. They can use words as "GREEN", "NATURAL" and "ORGANIC", on the front but they don't need to match the ingredient list on the back. And this is why clean beauty is so important.
Clean beauty focuses on products made for safe and natural ingredients, but it also comprises less-harm business practices, no animal testing and sustainably sourced.
To start, these are the top three ingredients you should say no to:
Parabens: These are estrogen-mimicking preservatives that can disrupt the endocrine system and cause reproductive and developmental disorders.
Benzophenone/Oxybenzone: This can be found in sunscreens and could promote the generation of potentially harmful free radicals.
Phthalates: They have the ability to mimic human hormones and can also be endocrine disrupters.
Nothing you put on your hair, skin or face should mess with your hormones since it could potentially increase your risk of the growth of cancerous cells. That said, don't write off a product just because it has a chemical-sounding ingredient on the list. Many natural and effective ingredients are actually natural compounds, like vitamins. Salicylic acid, for example, comes from natural sources, like willow trees.
The clean beauty companies are driven by the want the very best for their customers and the planet. We care about your wellbeing, your body and what makes you feel happy and healthy.
