Dyeing, waxing, bleaching, plucking, trimming, painting, shaving— sometimes it feels like a woman’s beauty routine is never-ending! Out of all of those crazy rituals, shaving is kind of the worst; it’s such a hassle to add an extra step to your shower routine and the shaving creams on the market are so drying, you’ve got to then spend time after the shower moisturizing!
Ok, maybe that was a bit dramatic but that last part is definitely true; conventional shower creams and gels are full of gross ingredients and leave your skin stripped and dry. Making your own homemade shaving cream will not only keep your beauty routine natural, it’ll keep your legs feeling smooth and hydrated. Below, you’ll find the best natural shaving cream recipes out there.
Coconut Oil Shaving Cream
Coconut oil is one of those miracle ingredients that is used in and for everything. It’s super gentle, incredibly hydrating and so easy to work with. The perfect base for a homemade shaving cream.
DIY Natural Shaving Cream Recipe by Mommy Potamus
- 1/3 cup coconut oil
- 1/3 cup shea butter
- 2 tbl olive, jojoba or sweet almond oil
- 2 tbl liquid castille soap
In a small saucepan, melt the coconut oil and shea butter on the lowest heat setting. Add the olive, jojoba or sweet almond oil and stir until fully blended and remove from heat. Transfer mixture to a medium sized bowl refrigerate until it is solid. Once it has solidified, take the bowl out of the refrigerator and using a hand mixer, begin blending the mixture until it has a fluffy, whipped consistency, about 5 minutes. Add the liquid castle soap and whip again until fully combined.
Transfer to a jar with a lid and store in a cool, dry place. This mixture will keep out of the refrigerator for some time as long as no water gets into it so be careful to keep it away from the drain while you’re shaving!
