Epsom Salt Detox Bath (and Moisturizer)

Epsom Salt for Detox & Moisturizing

Winter time is a perfect time for an indulgent bath ritual as it is so warming, cozy and comforting. A good bath has the ability to take us to a place of deep relaxation and help to ease muscle aches, tension and cramps.

Commercial soap products such as bubble baths or shower gels can have a drying effect and can be harmful to our skin. Using natural ingredients such as salts and oils is a great way to make sure that you get beautiful skin and healthy mind without using harsh chemicals.

These indulgent creamy bath salts are made with ingredients that are especially suitable for winter time, when our body and mind need that extra love and care.

Epsom salts are different than traditional salts in that it is actually a naturally occurring pure mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate. These minerals have very powerful health benefits that can enhance the detoxification capabilities of the body. Epsom salt has beneficial properties that can soothe the body, mind and soul.

Mixing Epsom Salts, Cocoa, Vanilla and Essential Oils

Some of the countless health benefits of epsom salt mixtures include relaxing the nervous system, curing skin problems, soothing back pain and aching limbs, easing muscle strain, healing cuts, treating cold and congestion, and drawing toxins from the body. It really is a wonder ingredient.

Sea salt is another ingredient that is a natural detoxifier, as it absorbs the toxins from the body. The sea salt bath give our bodies much needed minerals. When used in the bath, salts can help rid the body of toxins, tone the skin, improve circulation, ease muscular aches and can also offer help to those suffering from skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis. When combined with warm water, they help open up the pores while plumping up the skin just a bit, giving you a healthy and youthful glow.

Bathing with essential oils is a wonderfully synergistic combination. The relaxing properties of hot water compliment the effects of well-chosen essential oils. This recipe uses the calming and grounding patchouli oil together with sedative and antidepressant ylang ylang essential oil.

Patchouli essential oil is great at promoting healing and providing antiseptic, antifungal and antibacterial properties and can be helpful when treating skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis and acne.

Ylang ylang is an immensely powerful essential oil that has an aroma with a strong positive action on our mind and body. It offers a string of therapeutic properties for the skin, circulation, nerves, mind and emotions.

Adding a cocoa butter to this blend will add moisturizing properties to the skin. Because of its natural make-up and its nutrient and fatty acid content, cocoa butter is amazing for dry skin and can actually penetrate further than the top layer of the skin, meaning it moisturizes deep-down and really nourishes the skin. It also adds a beautiful chocolatey smell to the mix.
